Libertarians, in my experience, have generally been tone deaf to the structures that constitute society. Everything is not about individual choice. Most of us don’t have a choice about many things in our lives. Kids sure don’t have a choice about the family they are born into. That’s why there are societal structures and traditions that grow up–the wisdom of the past if you will–that assure that as often as possible kids are born into circumstances that are best for them. Call it a first principle if you like.
Another reason to subscribe to Ricochet.
