Rosa Parks was chosen for the position of civil disobedience (note both possible meanings of the word “civil”) because she was a woman of impeccable character, and because she could be trusted to break an unjust law with perfect courtesy, and did. Miss Parks was well-behaved under the most trying possible circumstances. She made history and won her point not by being the most outrageous bad-*ss, rude, and loud person on the bus. She won it by being courteous, clever, responsible, and just plain right.
