Protesters also picketed outside the restaurant. According to an online petition, they took issue with the owner, Brian Ingram, using the word “Elotes” in the restaurant’s name. The protesters say the word is sacred, as it stems from an indigenous word for corn, a native crop. There was no issue with Ingram’s interpretation of Mexican street food.

On one hand, it’s a really bad idea to give in to bullies; on the other, this is a pretty obvious “give us an excuse to destroy you” move.

  1. Question, is there such an animal as non-obnoxious bullies? [Puzzled Smile]

    1. Sure– there’s helpful bullies (generally healthy, loving family members; mothers that make strategic use of guilt trips, for example), there’s dangerous bullies (the Middle East in a nutshell, many gang members), there are ineffective bullies….

    2. In theory, there might be an audience for whom Haruhi Suzumiya is on the correct side of the hot/crazy line, and would be willing to tolerate her abusive behavior towards others being directed at them.

  2. Once you pay the Danegeld, you will never be rid of the Dane.

    Of course, there are those who may think I can take it a little far. (There are a number of international treaties that I really don’t care for. )
